My GaPa: glorious alpine beaut

I’m pleased to present one of my favourite spots to visit in Germany. Located in southern Bavaria near the international border with Austria, Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GAP)* provides ample opportunities for year-round exploration with ample hiking in summer and skiing in winter. GAP also provides a convenient base to visit the Mittenwald area, Oberammergau, and Tirol across the border in Austria.

I’ve stayed in GAP four times: 2002, 2011, 2017, and 2018; I’m kinda fond of Biohotel Bavaria. Next are 10 spots in and around the GAP.

Five philosophical phases

The five phases or elements in Chinese philosophy, 五行, have been around in some form since at least 200 BC/BCE. If they began from a philosophical or astrological attempt to describe and connect various kinds of observed phenomena, I’ll bring that forward to present-day observations, and tie them to scientific processes and achievements of human creativity or ingenuity.

The Oxford Dictionary defines different as:

•   not the same as another or each other; unlike in nature, form, or quality.
•   novel and unusual.
•   distinct; separate.

A first glance at something seen might be good enough at the outset, but a photograph excels at the magic of a moment. Okay, it’s not always magic, and sometimes it’s more than the singularity of an event. Glance at these images and it’s possible you’ll proceed without additional examination, but if you stop for another look, you might find yourself asking questions.

Tracers of human & geologic history (IG)

The Oxford Dictionary defines history as:

•   study of past events, particularly in human affairs;
•   whole series of past events connected with a particular person or thing;
•   a continuous chronological record of key or public events or of a particular trend or institution.

I provide the following examples of tangible traces of past societies and signs of present-day activity. I tried here to avoid elements of or imprints by historic architectural or building styles which was presented here in a previous LAPC.
