Fotoeins Friday: Family outing at North Bondi (Sydney)
This post is the third of five Fotoeins Fridays in June, all from Australia’s most populous city, Sydney.
I found myself at North Bondi at various times; there are fewer people, a larger fraction of residents out and about, and the wave action is much stronger against the rocky cliffs and outcrops on the shoreline. A young family was on a stroll as mum showed her son examples of ocean life with their faithful dog darting in and out of the way. Fortunately, I managed to snap a frame where little biped and little quad both looked down into the fissure at the geographic feature called Flat Rock.

Super snap up there Henry. I want to visit this region around Sydney as I heard many great things about it. Really neat. I dig how you have so much nature and beauty close to a major urban center. This is not something we have here by NYC; you need to take a long ride before enjoying some wilderness, way out west in NJ.

Hi, Ryan; thank you for your comment. North Bondi is very urban, but as with all of the eastern beaches, the Pacific Ocean is within direct reach. Public transport can get you to a recommended Bondi to Bronte coastal walk to Tamarama Beach and Bronte Beach. Venturing further south on the Bondi to Coogee coastal walk gets you to Coogee where it’s even more local. Hopping on a city ferry over to Manly gets you to the northern beaches and beyond. Although travel would be easier with a car, heading west to Wentworth Falls, Katoomba, and the Blue Mountains National Park is a great break from the city, as is also a trip north to Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park towards Woy Woy and beyond to Newcastle. (Both Woy Woy and Newcastle can be reached with city rail from Sydney.) They may be long rides, too, but they’re wonderful slices of nature within reach from (what I would call) the Australian version of Los Angeles. 🙂 Thanks again for stopping by!

I saw both boy and dog looking down into cracks and crevices in the rock, and it was a matter of luck and being ready when both little ones happened to look down at the same time. Thanks!
