Fotoeins Friday: RTW10, twenty-two

10 years ago, I began an around-the-world (RTW) journey lasting 389 consecutive days, from 24 December 2011 to 15 January 2013 inclusive.

27 May 2012.

A short interisland flight with BahamasAir over the water takes us from Nassau to Georgetown on Great Exuma Island. From Georgetown, we hop on a water-taxi to Stocking Island for an afternoon on the beach next to Chat ‘N’ Chill Beach Bar & Grill. Other visitors (and pleasure-boats) hail from the U.S., México, and various European and South American countries.

I made the image above on 27 May 2012 with a Canon EOS450D (Rebel XSi) and these settings: 1/400-sec, f/5.6, ISO100, and 55mm focal length (88mm full-frame equivalent). My thanks to the W. family for making possible my visit to the Bahamas. This post appears on Fotoeins Fotografie at fotoeins DOT com as https://wp.me/p1BIdT-m59.

10 years ago, I began an around-the-world (RTW) journey lasting 389 consecutive days, from 24 December 2011 to 15 January 2013 inclusive.

3 May 2012.

It’s my first visit to both Nassau and The Bahamas where friends from Vancouver live and work. Despite the small size and its distance from the mainland, I could get used to the constant tropical weather and the absolute lack of urban pace. I’m at Junkanoo Beach, and the view across the water to Nassau Harbour Lighthouse includes many pleasure craft in the harbour, as well as a number of swimmers in the shallow waters. Looking at this ten years on, I still marvel over the different shades of blue in both sky and water.

I made the image above on 3 May 2012 with a Canon EOS450D (Rebel XSi) and these settings: 1/320-sec, f/8, ISO100, and 47mm focal length (75mm full-frame equivalent). My thanks to the W. family for making possible my visit to the Bahamas. This post appears on Fotoeins Fotografie at fotoeins DOT com as https://wp.me/p1BIdT-lZu.

Fotoeins Friday in the Bahamas: high luxury

Deep from the archives:

People live where tourists flock. As the image shows, the Bahamaian city of Nassau sees its fair share of wealthy people, as exhibited by the rental of this “Yes Dear” 18-metre (58-foot) catamaran yacht, complete with chartered crew. The starting rate begins at 20-thousand dollars for 2 passengers. Behind are the towers of the massive Atlantis casino and hotel complex. Given the relative isolation of these islands off the Florida coast, trying to reconcile what residents do for work versus the flow of offshore capital isn’t an obvious task.

I visited friends for a month in The Bahamas during my year-long RTW. From Nassau’s Eastern Parade, near the decent resto The Green Parrot, I made the image above on 18 May 2012 with a Canon EOS450D/Rebel XSi and the following settings: 1/200-sec, f/11, ISO100, and 34mm focal length (54mm full-frame equivalent). Fotoeins Friday in the Bahamas: snorkeling lesson

Deep from the archives:

Warm blue waters are an invitation: sit at the beach to nurse a drink, or like these people, a small-group of people learning how to snorkel. What is your kind of relaxation in tropical climes? These were some of my first images in the Bahamas at Nassau’s Junkanoo Beach. For those stuck in the dark grey cold doldrums of a (northern) winter, there’s always hope of rejuvenation at lower latitudes, or even, southern latitudes.

During my year-long RTW, I made the photo above on 3 May 2012 with a Canon EOS450D/Rebel XSi and the following settings: 1/640-sec, f/8, ISO100, and 53mm focal length (85mm full-frame equivalent). This post appears on Fotoeins Fotografie at fotoeins DOT com as https://wp.me/p1BIdT-isq.

Fotoeins Friday in the Bahamas: breezy beach drinks

Deep from the archives:

In the Bahamas, the bulk of the month-long stay is in Nassau on New Providence. Tonight we’ve headed over to adjacent Paradise Island where there’s a reserved table for sunset drinks at Dune at the Ocean Club. Formerly owned by The One and Only corporation, the property is now run by Four Seasons. The onshore ocean breeze brings in the intermittent crash of the surf, in contrast with constant chatter from inside the bar. The cold drinks and the setting sun provide additional relief from the humid tropical afternoon.

During my year-long RTW, I made the photo above on 13 May 2012 with a Canon EOS450D/Rebel XSi and the following settings: 1/320-sec, f/14, ISO100, and 55mm focal length (88mm full-frame equivalent). This post appears on Fotoeins Fotografie at fotoeins DOT com as https://wp.me/p1BIdT-isi.
