19 Nov 2020: In time for the Seahawks’ home game against the Arizona Cardinals, the sports stadium where the NFL Seahawks (and the MLS Sounders) play was rebranded to Lumen Field.
The pull is undeniable.
Under overcast skies and a forecast of heavy rainshowers, I walk out one January morning from Vancouver’s West End and head out towards Stanley Park for a morning walk. Past Coal Harbour and Deadman’s Island, I arrive finally at the totem poles near Brockton Point.
The totem was the British Columbia Indian’s “Coat of Arms”. Totem poles are unique to the northwest coast of B.C. and lower Alaska. They were carved from Western red cedar and each carving tells of a real or mythical event. They were not idols, nor were they worshipped. Each carving on each pole has a meaning. The eagle represents the kingdom of the air, the whale the lordship of the sea, the wolf the genius of the land, and the frog the transitional link between land and sea.
Curious about Scandinavia? Love food, too? Just as important, do you have some extra coinage to part, if your wallet hasn’t already emptied itself to the gods of accommodation? And frankly, just who is this god of accommodation to whom I should be pleading my case?
If your wallet has been fully appeased, it’s good then you’ve found yourself in Stockholm.
I’m happy to be inside the Czech capital of Prague whenever the opportunity arises. With great timing of an early-October visit and a very positive weather forecast, I’m awake well before scheduled sunrise, and I stumble out to KarlΕ―v most (Charles Bridge) to catch the light of sunrise on the city. Seeing and photographing the warm sunrise glow on the old parts of the city makes the early wakeup call worthwhile. Prague is effectively an “open-air museum”; the warm colours at sunrise combined with the changing colours of the surrounding deciduous canopy magnify the visual intensity.
And no, I don’t think there’s enough orange or red to cover this UNESCO World Heritage Site …

I started this series of food pictures in 2011, and the collection of photos has grown to something more. I think food throughout Germany can be colourful and delicious, and can offer interesting variety outside of the traditional “meat and starch”.
