Mi CDMX: unos momentos en las calles
Mexico City: people and streets of interest
The following is a cross-section through the massive metropolis that is Mexico City. The city proper has population around 9 million, but the greater urban area has in excess of 20 million. An afternoon walk provides a tiny visual slice of all that makes up the city in her streets: her people and where they live, work, eat, play/pray, and love.

“Torre Latino.”

“Lineas.”

“Aburrida” (bored).

“Ojos” (eyes).

Blind band (near Metro ALLENDE).

Watching the blind.

“No ver, pero O-y-R.”

Templo Mayor (Great Temple) dedicated to Aztec gods at Mexica capital city of Tenochtitlan, both temple and city c. 14th-century; temple destroyed by Spanish conquistadors in 16th-century. Rediscovered in 1978 underneath built-up modern Mexico City.

“Orando” (praying): inside Catedral Metropolitana, located next to Templo Mayor.

“La religión moderna” (modern religion).

“Centro joyero” (jewelry centre).

“Capital en movimiento” (capital in motion).

“Tacos de guisado” (tacos with stew).

“Tacos a la orden” (tacos to order).

“Tacos en la calle” (tacos in the street).

“Eje, siempre” (primary road, always).

“50 Friends”, in La Condesa.
Over the course of my year-long RTW, I made the photos above on 9 March 2012. This post appears on Fotoeins Fotopress at fotoeins.com as http://wp.me/p1BIdT-1wO.

Hi Henry. Great introduction to Mexico City. Love the shot of the ladies praying. The taco stands make me hungry for Mexican food!

Hi, Betsy. It is impossible to encapsulate a large metropolitan area in a dozen or so photographs, but I still thought it was a worthy challenge. Your kind comments are a thoughtful testament to this short attempt; thank you!

I love Mexico City and have visited several times. Thank you though for turning the camera on the people instead of only the albeit gorgeous sights and buildings. I look forward to returning one day.

Hi, Elaine. I’ve only set foot in Mexico City a couple of times, and we agree the city’s atmosphere is intoxicating, especially when the air quality is ‘breathable’ and ‘transparent’. 😉 Thanks to the urging of my friends whom I visited in the city, I set my camera ‘down’ to street-level, and I’m glad some of the shots worked out well. Thanks for your comments!

Hi and thanks, Cathy. I have to get better at photographing people in the streets, although I know one has to take care of local customs and/or laws regarding taking pictures of people, even if it is out in public. Thanks again for your kind compliment!

I finally got to see this with time. I am going on 10 months without setting foot there and it will get to be a year, which might be the longest ever. You made me so nostalgic with this post. I agree that it captures the atmosphere of the city very well, particularly the food stands.

Hola, Eva. Wow, it’ll be a year since you’ve stepped home, though to be fair, you have more on your plate; your family will come to you! But I knew when I was looking at these pictures, I was back in the City to our long afternoon-walk through the centre: me shooting as much as my eyes could grab, and sometimes from the hip; and Niv carefully selecting shots here and there. It is a tremendous compliment from you that I was able to absorb some of that atmosphere from your home city and I managed to relay that in a few pictures – thank you. 🙂
