Fotoeins Friday: Louis XIV gazes at Fourvière (Lyon)

The rider and horse appear they’re about to hop off the pedestal and gallop to the church and tower in the distance. The equestrian statue of King Louis XIV stands proudly at the centre of Place Bellecour (literally, “beautiful heart square”) in Lyon, France. In the distance on Fourvière hill the 19th-century La Basilique Notre Dame (Notre Dame Basilica) and Tour métallique (metallic tower) soar. Everything pictured here is part of the city’s Old Town UNESCO World Heritage Site (since 1998).

I made the photo above on 13 Jun 2010 with the Canon 450D, 18-55 kit-lens, and the following settings: 1/800s, f/8, ISO200, and 55mm focal length (88mm full-frame equivalent). This post appears on Fotoeins Fotopress at as

UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Around the World

Since 1995, I’ve been fortunate to experience significant travel: first as green graduate student on my first (of many) trips to Chile; followed by the opportunity to live and work in 3 countries on 3 continents inside a span of 10 years. I didn’t give much thought about their relative importance at the time, but I’m lucky to have visited a number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites (WHS).
