Fotoeins Friday: the other greener side, (East) Berlin

20 October 2012.

“The grass is greener on the other side.”

In this case, if you like making old things new, if you believe in the power of gentrification, then we’ve got something for you, especially in the German capital city. But for those who would like to keep things simpler but not necessarily keep things old, there’s a look or peek into nirvana, something like the well-visited well-populated East Side Gallery, where on the other side it’s a place most visitors won’t know or go. If you live here, if you’ve spent any significant time here, or if you’ve been to this city countless times, it’s easy to find spots where the resident-to-visitor ratio is in favour of the former. And well, I came here to this spot and it seemed like a perfectly symbolic way to begin my period of two months in the city.

Ultimately though, in a city where English is the second de facto “lingua franca”, who can truly tell the difference?

During my year-long RTW, I made this photo on 20 October 2012 with the Canon 450D, 18-55 kit-lens, and the following settings: 1/400-sec, f/5, ISO200, and 23mm focal length (37mm full-frame equivalent). This post appears on Fotoeins Fotografie at fotoeins.com as http://wp.me/p1BIdT-aeV.
