10 Capital Cities

Above/featured: Waterfront and Te Papa: Wellington, New Zealand – 12 Oct 2010 (450D).

Two definitions for the noun “capital (city)” are:

1. the city or town functioning as the seat of government and administrative centre for country or region.
2. with modifier, a place associated more than any other with a specified activity or product; e.g., fashion capital of the world.

I’ll go with the first definition. With almost 70% of this planet’s land mass in the northern hemisphere, you’d be forgiven in subscribing to a selection bias for capital cities primarily north of the equator. I was born in the north, but I also spent a good chunk of the last two decades in the south; so, I’ve chosen here 5 capital cities in each of the northern and southern hemispheres.

I made all photos above with Canon hardware: PowerShot A510 (A510) and EOS450D/Rebel XSi (450D). Many of these occurred during a year-long RTW#. Alle Fotoaufnahmen sind mit Wasserzeichen versehen worden. This post appears on Fotoeins Fotografie at fotoeins DOT com as https://wp.me/p1BIdT-gMJ.

Wow … you have been around – thank yours for the world tour. Great entry and images …. especially the one with the Swedish crown. Stockholm is one beautiful city and I don’t say that because I’m Swedish. The Junkanoo Beach image … priceless – postcard material. Thank you so much for playing

Hi, Viveka, and thanks for stopping by. I have great memories of Stockholm, especially with my visit years ago around summer solstice: lots to do and see during those long summer days and short summer nights. I’m glad you liked the visual travel in my post: The Bahamas really are beautiful and warm, water and skies truly blue. Thanks again for your comment!

Can you imagining living up in Lapland where in the summer it never gets dark … ??? And never have daylight in the winter ???? *smile Thank you so much for sharing you travel with me.

I think it would be fun and interesting to spend a few days or a week at northern latitudes in the summertime. I’ve seen documentaries of fly-bys over Arctic Canada, and I’m fascinated by the beautiful barren geography. The endless night in winter would just about end me, however. Thanks again!

Wonderful post, Henry. Your travels are truly impressive! Beautiful shots, too. I haven’t been to any of these places. Well, that has to change! Thanks for joining us!

Hi and thanks, Patti. I would be happy if any of these pictures will soon get you to these places for the first time. Are there one or more pictures or places that immediately leap out at you? Thanks again for your comment!

Great job Henry. I did a similar year throughout Europe while I was studying in France but sadly no digital images. But great memories😊.

Hi and thanks, Tina. Although I once lived in Germany for two years, I didn’t have a camera the entire time. I regret this to some degree; even a hazy film camera would have been good enough. Similarly, I have good memories of my time living and wandering about the country. Thanks again for stopping by!

Hi, John. I was fortunate to make a partial encirclement of the globe; I say “partial” because I’ve only made a tangential glance at Africa, and I’ve not yet stepped foot on the Subcontinent or in the Middle East. Thanks for stopping by!
