Fotoeins Friday: Springtime in the City (Vancouver)

In downtown Vancouver, residents and visitors bask in the warm spring afternoon sun at Robson Square on the steps to the old Provincial Courthouse, home now to the Vancouver Art Gallery. In the background, the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver is in shadow with sun behind localized cumulus cloud. This picture represents one of many living aspects to Vancouver in (northern) spring, especially after a prolonged period of the dull wet grey and when temperatures approach 20C/70F.

I made the photo on 22 March 2016 with the Canon EOS6D camera, 24-105 zoom-lens, and the following settings: 1/500s, f/14, ISO400, and 24mm focal length. I adjusted the image for geometric distortion and perspective correction. This post appears on Fotoeins Fotopress at as

Hi, Tanja. Built in 1906, the neo-classical building in the foreground is the home of the former courthouse for the province of British Columbia. The area around the courthouse was redeveloped into public space called Robson Square, and the Vancouver Art Gallery moved into this building, opening in late-1983. There aren’t many open public spaces in the city centre, but Robson Square is basically a central space, even if it’s not very large.
