Fotoeins Friday: sunny wave at Stachus in München

Germany in late-fall and winter can be grim, grey, cold, and wet. The sun and blue skies are a most welcome appearance, even under a mass of cold air. Here at Stachus (Karlsplatz, Charles Square) in München, the polar bear fixture on top of one of the stalls at the Christmas market seems to beckon, wave, and greet all those who see and approach this busy square. You’ve just come up and out of the S-Bahn, Tram, or U-Bahn, and you’re cold? Come and pick up a hot drink and food to get warmed up.

I made the photo above at Stachus (also, Karlsplatz) in München on 12 December 2012 with a Canon EOS450D and the EF-S 18-55 IS II lens with the following settings: 1/320s, f/8, ISO100, 42mm (67mm). It is just beautiful (and blinding) when snow is covering the land and the sun is shining down from a blue sky. These days i lookout the window and see rain with some more rain and a grey grey sky 🙂

Oh how the grim grey days of fall (and winter) plague me and my memory. I see them “everywhere”, whether it’s here in Vancouver, Canada, or in a part of the 3 weeks I just spent in Germany. I like cold cold days with bright sun, blue skies, and snow on the ground. 🙂 Thanks for reading and for your comment, Timo!

An Dir “Frohe Weihnachten” auch! 🙂 Although I simply did not have the time, I regret not coming through München on the just recent three-week trip to Germany. So, some past photographs will have to do for now. It is funny, however; many friends in Germany keep saying to tell me: why do you always visit when the skies are grey and the temperatures are cold? I always answer with “Weihnachtsmarkt”. Truth be told, I really like Germany in summers, too. 😀

I will! Regardless of town, city, or its common reputation, I always miss some aspect of the place. With Munich, there are three general places I have to be every time I’m in town: Marienplatz, Odeonsplatz, and Münchner Freiheit. No surprise that all three places are all along the same stretch of U-Bahn. 😉 But I really should come back in the summer, too. Thanks for your comment, and happy 2015!
