Fotoeins Friday: Christmas lights at the City-Weihnachtsmarkt
When the calendar strikes December, “Weihnachtsmarkt” or Christmas markets are in full swing in just about every town in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. But the “Weihnachtsmarkt” is not only a market, but it’s also a festival complete with lights, decorations, food; there might also be ice skating, a carousel, and even rides for children. I’ve always believed there’s something special about the atmosphere of a Weihnachtsmarkt under coloured lights in light snowfall on a cold evening.
• Muzen & Krapfen
• Brüsseler Waffeln
• Dampfnudeln
• Kaffee & Kakao (coffee & hot cocoa)
I made the photo above at the Weihnachtsmarkt an der Gedächtniskirche (City-Weihnachtsmarkt) in Berlin on 6 December 2012 with the Canon EOS450D (XSi) camera and the EF 50/1.4 prime-lens with the following settings: 1/200s, f/2.8, ISO800, 50mm (80mm) focal length.
