Fotoeins Friday: first day of northern summer

The solstice marks the longest (shortest) day of the year in the northern (southern) hemisphere. For many in Vancouver, Canada, it’s perfect beach weather for a picnic, a swim, a row, or simply watch people go by, followed by a sunset over the water. Another popular activity here at Spanish Banks is beach volleyball, either 2 versus 2, or a full 6 against 6.

I made the photo above at Spanish Banks in Vancouver, Canada, on 18 July 2013. This post appears on Fotoeins Fotopress at fotoeins.com as http://wp.me/p1BIdT-5aB.

I envy your first day of summer – the sun may make an appearance on Saturday, but we’ve had chilly fog 3 days straight this week.
I’m just going to have to bask in the light of your posts and photos therein. 😀

Hi, Maria. May the cool days of fog clear and give way to the warm sun! But it’s amusing to know I too feel warmer seeing a photograph of other people playing beach volleyball in the sun. 😉 Thanks for stopping by and for your comment!

We did visit Canada for 8 weeks in 2010. It was my husband’s choice to spend that long there, but in the end I was totally won over. We loved both sides of Canada (we missed the middle which we intend to come back to see). My favourite thing to do in Vancouver was to hire push bikes and ride around the sea wall and through part of the city.

Hi, Jan. I’m glad you had a memorable time here in Vancouver! Canada is a very big country, but I’m glad to see you spent a significant amount of time on the “ocean” sides of the country. It may not surprise you to know there are still large parts of my own nation I have yet to see. Thanks for reading and for your comment!

Love this shot, Henry. I’ve been to Vancouver quite a few times. I have two good friends there. Weird thing is, I never see as much of the city as I would like. We are having so much fun catching up that I forget to be a tourist! 🙂

Hi and thanks, Nancie! It’s also easy to forget to see and visit all the great spots in the same city where one’s living. I’ve rediscovered a lot about my birthplace. Thanks again for your kind comment!
