“Why are they looking at me?”

Bruno Benini (1925-2001) was one of the most influential fashion photographers in Australia. With designer, fashion stylist, and publicist, Hazel Craig, they created a successful partnership and produced fashion photography which now provides a historical framework to contemporary Australian style.

The Powerhouse Museum purchased the Benini photography archive in 2009, and a digital installation of a number of Benini’s photographs took place as an exhibition inside Sydney’s Queen Victoria Building in the (southern) spring of 2010. Shown at centre is a copy of Benini’s portrait of model Lynn Gleeson in a studio-session from 1959.

The Queen Victoria Building is located in Sydney’s downtown area or Central Business District; the nearest City train station is Town Hall.

I made the photo above on 5 October 2010. This post was published originally on Fotoeins Fotopress at fotoeins.com.
